About
Tumblr home of Those Without Shadows, an illustrated novel to be published online starting in June 2012.I was practicing my chibis over the weekend with Those Without Shadows characters.
While getting a package ready to ship to my beloved not-quite-homeland, I realized I had this old illustration to send too. XD I drew this for @playerprophet goodness knows how many eons ago….long before I started using copics as my color tool of choice. ^^ I’m glad she still has these characters around though; and I’m doubly looking forward to when she can start posting Those Without Shadows stuff!!!!
Ah man!!! I have such talented friends!!!!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah I still love this picture a lot ;w; THANK YOU HONEY I’m glad to see it again <333
I had a moment where I realized when I put those rocks up for sale I’m also hopefully giving the guy at The Last Game Store my business cards, so I should have something useful up at playerprophet.com.
So I whipped up this wallpaper in like 20 minutes just in case before I just settled on a url redirect instead so it just sends you to my art blog for now.
Until TWS goes live.
*u*
Here’s the full wallpaper size in case Tumblr compresses it.
One of my favourite things that I got to do in High School art class was carving out rubber stamps. So last Christmas my dad just sent me a bunch of money and I spent it on a stamp-carving set and a couple of rubber blocks. It took me until yesterday to take advantage of them.
It’s hard to come up with subjects, so I did Minerva’s wings!
You’re supposed to use ink and not paint but I can’t be tamed.
And then I stamped it shamelessly on all of my outgoing mail.
You’ll probably see this motif on lots of Those Without Shadows stuff.
I realized while I was walking around today that the “spiritual hierarchy” of TWS is really complicated and might be hard to explain using words, so I made this fancy chart!
The order is spiritual energy according to the elves, probably. But if it were organized by “Light Elves” they would place themselves at at least on par with the elemental races, if not higher, so this is probably a “Dark Elf” interpretation. But either way the fine classification in that area is mostly bullshit.
Another interpretation is that the ones over top are more likely to be able to beat the snot out of the lower ranks, which is also arguable since the faeries are pacifists and there are animals that can eat humans out there. (Welcome to university education where you’re taught that everything you’ve come to know is bullshit as is the case here.)
The arrows are less bullshit, and indicate a mostly literal who-beget-who. And by beget I mean some literally created rather than birthed.
Dark elves won’t be a major subject until the second installment of Those Without Shadows, but I drew some anyway.
The elves were once part of one major union, but were split by a change in ideologies. After a perceived betrayal, the Dark Elves came to prioritize the higher pantheon of Sun and Space, which led to a greater appreciation of the elemental races such as their affinity to Pulcane. Meanwhile the self-porclaimed “Light Elves” remained loyal to the Parents, the sub-creators and managers of spiritual regeneration.
The two groups fight at any given opportunity.
I was working on some worldbuilding when I suddenly decided to garble out some vague designs.
In Those Without Shadows there are four elemental races. Angels occupied cities in the sky, and affiliated closely with elves in the North. When the story begins, however, they are long extinct. Ruins of the cities they once suspended in air can be found abandoned all over the planet where they fell, some lost deep in the ocean, others dropped in chunks just outside of city limits. Several human cities have sprung up around these mysterious ruins, which are probably haunted to the teeth. Humans aren’t as good at noticing these things as other races, however.
